Focus College - Abbotsford

University Overview

Focus College Abbotsford welcomes students from all walks of life to pursue their education and goals.  Focus College Abbotsford cares about ensuring students are work-ready and prepared for a bright future through our PGWP-qualifying pathway programs.  In Canada, it is not uncommon for students to start their education at a college and complete their education at a university. Focus College Abbotsford has expanded that opportunity so that it is available to international students as well, with easy to access entrance requirements: no early application cut-off dates, no math requirements, and a 6.0 IELTS requirement which accepts bands at 5.5.

Focus College first opened its doors in 1992.  Today, 29 years later, Focus College Abbotsford offers students globally recognized, leading-edge, employment-focused training in Business, Information Technology, and Travel & Tourism.  At Focus, students always get small class sizes with a low student-to-teacher ratio that ensures their success.  Instructors get to know students and their learning styles to effectively teach and make sure students have a firm understanding of the course content.  This gives students the confidence they need to succeed not only at Focus College Abbotsford, but also on the next step of their journey at our partner institutions.

Why Focus College – Abbotsford

  • PGWP Pathways: Focus College Abbotsford removes barriers to education while ensuring that students can still access the PGWPs that give them invaluable Canadian work experience on completion of their program. Focus College Abbotsford saves students money over going straight to a public university. Our entrance requirements are also lower: High school graduation (no minimum), No math requirement, and an IELTS of 6.0, no bands less than 5.5.
  • University of the Fraser Valley Partnership: The University of the Fraser Valley and Focus College are proud to announce a partnership which allows students to earn a PGWP with only two years of study.  Focus College Abbotsford graduates can transfer their first-year credits to one of British Columbia’s top universities: 31 credits into the Diploma of General Studies, or 21 credits into the Diploma of Business.  Students can graduate with their Diploma and earn their PGWP, or they can choose to continue studying towards a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Student Support: Friendly staff are ready to greet students as they enter, and all staff are equipped to help students as needed.  Small class sizes ensure that the students remain the faculty’s top priority.  Whether for a part-time job or a career search, staff and instructors are available to help set up resumes and cover letters, provide interview tips, and use the community networks we have in place to help students.  We also provide support in the unexpected day-to-day aspects of a new country, such as how to operate laundry machines, catch the bus, or open a new bank account.
  • Excellent location: With easy access to Vancouver and just minutes away from the US border, Abbotsford offers lower housing prices with access to all the action of our neighbouring cities.  We boast one of the best climates in all of Canada, with temperate weather year -round, and only a couple weeks of snow each year. As one of the most multi-cultural cities in Canada, students are sure to find restaurants and grocery stores carrying the foods they love.  The surrounding mountains provide beauty and many outdoor activities, while downtown Abbotsford provides opportunities to connect with the locals and enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the streets transform into one movie set or another. With the University of the Fraser Valley located less than 10kms away from Focus College Abbotsford, students will not need to adjust their housing or part time jobs to make the transition from College to University.

Features

0 out of 7 programs are eligible for Post Graduation Work Permit.

The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWP) enables students who have graduated from participating Canadian post-secondary institutions to gain valuable Canadian work experience. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released a preliminary list of programs that qualify for the PGWP. Based on our current understanding, which may be subject to changes, these programs are linked to fields of study that correspond to occupations in long-term shortage or meet new requirements.

For more details, visit: IRCC Work Post-Grad.

Disclaimer: The final decision on PGWP approval rests solely with the IRCC. Students are advised to check the eligibility criteria on the IRCC website to ensure they meet all the requirements.

See guidelines on working while studying here.

If students do not meet the minimum English requirements, students may still get conditionally accepted into the program of their choice with the condition of completing an approved English program prior to starting their chosen program.
